BEFORE THE TREATMENT
-
Avoid direct sun exposure to the area being treated at least 5 days prior to treatment.
-
The use of tanning creams must be discontinued 2 weeks before treatment.
-
You must avoid bleaching, plucking or waxing hair for 6 weeks prior to treatment and do not wax, epilate or pluck or remove hair by any other means than shaving during the course of the treatment.
-
You must avoid the use of essential oils 48 hours prior to treatment
-
Do not use Depilatory creams 1 week prior to treatment
-
If you have a history of cold sore, Zovirax may be used prior to treatment and continued 1 week after treatment.
-
If you have been on antibiotics, we ask that you leave 2 weeks between finishing the course and having a Laser treatment.
-
The area to be treated must be shaved on the day of the treatment, however shaving immediately prior to treatment may make the skin more sensitive so please allow sufficient time in between.
-
The area to be treated must be free from dirt, make-up, deodrant, moisturisers and lotions.
AFTER THE TREATMENT
-
Occasionally there may be a sunburn like redness that can last 1-3 days. Apply a soothing lotion such as Aloe Vera or Cool packs (not ice) at home if required.
-
Do not shave or apply deodrants/ perfumes to the area for 24-48 hours to reduce any skin irritation.
-
There may be swelling that can last up to 48 hours - Apply cook packs at home if required
-
Avoid very hot baths, saunas, hot tubs /jacuzzi, massage treatments or athetlic activities for 2-3 days.
-
The skin may have increased sensitivity to sunlight and therefore you are advised to use a 30+ sunscreen and avoid sun exposure and solarium treatments for at least 14 days after the laser treatment.
-
Rarely there may be some itching of the skin. Avoid scratching the skin. You can take an antihistamine eg- Piriton to alleviate this irritation, which should settle after 1-3 days.
-
Avoid any skincare that contains AHA, Glycolic Acid, Salicylic Acid or Retinoic Acidn (eg Retin A) for 3-5 days.
-
You may start to gently exfoliate the skin after 3-5 days to remove the flaky dead skin that commonly forms after laser treatment.
-
It is important to maintain a good skincare routine with frequent hydration or moisturisation on a daily basis.
WHAT HAPPENS TO HAIR AFTER THE TREATMENT
-
Stubble will push through as normal from the shaved skin in your usual growth pattern.
-
The speed of hair growth may slow down
-
Around 5-10 days after treatment the treated hairs will fall out. This is most noticbale after bathing / showering + towel drying over the treated area.
-
At this point you will begin to see the benefit of the laser treatment.
